TOP 10 Films of 2017: A Self Portrait Series

I watch a lot of movies. Like, A. LOT. Like, All of them.

Every year I compile my year end list of the best and post it online. THIS year, I needed an end of the year project… especially since I didn’t shoot my yearly Halloween Series, I was kind of yearning for a film tribute project. So, on a whim, I decided to shoot portraits based on my Top 10 this year. As a twist, instead of shooting models as the characters, I shot self portraits. I don’t often use myself as my subject, but I had time constraints and budget concerns, and the one model I knew was available in NYC during the holidays…was me.

All the following images were shot between Dec 23rd and Jan 2nd using a timer and one of my Nikons. I lit, art directed, shot, edited and did all makeup, hair changes (even resulting in a chemical burn–yipeee) and costumes on my own. Though I did have my two flatmates help with shutter duties for Call Me By Your Name and The Shape of Water.. because of fluids. Hope you enjoy the images as much as I did shooting them! Here’s to a visually satisfying and inspiring New Year! Happy 2018!!
